Frequently Asked Questions

What is the dress code?
The dress code for our wedding is black tie: tuxes and gowns are encouraged.
Will events take place indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will occur at the Hall of Philosophy, an outdoor, Greek-inspired temple within Chautauqua Institution. The reception will be lakeside under a tent by the Miller Bell Tower. Endless views of beautiful Chautauqua Lake are included.
How long will the ceremony last?
The wedding ceremony, or the Order of Celebrating Matrimony, includes a full Catholic mass, which may last an hour or more. We feel this is the most important part of the whole weekend and ask our guests to join us for this special sacrament.
Will transportation be provided?
All events and festivities will be held at Chautauqua Institution, with everything within walking distance. Shuttle transportation will also run on a loop between the Athenaeum Hotel, the Hall of Philosophy, and the Reception Tent.
Where should I stay?
We hope our guests can join us for the entire weekend at the Athenaeum Hotel, the central location where all the weekend events will take place. There is also a discounted rate for our wedding weekend. Visit the Accommodations page for more information.
Is there parking?
Yes, there will be valet parking at the hotel for those staying. There are also parking lots and street parking within Chautauqua Institution grounds.
Are children invited?
Although we love your little ones, our wedding weekend will be an adult-only event.
